Mullein tea is a single-ingredient herbal infusion made from 100% dried mullein. Enjoy it on its own or combine it with other herbs suitable for tea to create your own loose-herb blend. Choose a 25 g, 50 g or 100 g bag.

How to prepare mullein tea

1. Add 2 teaspoons of dried mullein to a cup or teapot.
2. Pour over one cup of hot water, cover and leave to steep for 10–30 minutes, following the supplier's brewing guidance.
3. Filter thoroughly before drinking, using a paper tea or coffee filter to remove fine plant hairs and particles.

Start with the shorter steeping time and adjust to taste. Mullein's fine hairs can irritate the mouth and throat if they remain in the infusion, so careful filtering is an important part of preparation.

For blends, try the herb on its own first and follow any preparation instructions supplied with the other tea ingredients. Filter blended infusions just as carefully.

Using mullein as a smoking or vaping herb

Dried mullein is also widely used as a smooth, mild, nicotine-free herbal alternative to tobacco. To smoke it, crumble the leaf finely, remove any thick stems and fibres, and roll it on its own or blend it with other smokable herbs such as raspberry leaf or damiana; it burns best when slightly dried and loosely packed. For a dry-herb vaporiser, grind the leaf to a medium consistency and start at a low temperature of around 160–180 °C, increasing gradually to taste. Mullein has very little flavour of its own, which makes it a useful neutral base for blends. Begin with a small amount to see how your body responds, and remember that inhaling any burning plant material carries risks: this product is not a smoking-cessation aid, contains no nicotine, and should be kept away from children, pets and anyone who is pregnant or has a respiratory condition.
